Feb. 17, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Tickets are now on sale for the 2009 Kansas Softball home season, highlighted by a series against 2008 Big 12 Champion and NCAA runner-up Texas A&M, currently ranked fifth in the country.

The Jayhawks will host two games each against two other 2008 NCAA Tournament participants – Oklahoma and Border Showdown rival Missouri – both of whom are currently ranked in the Top 20. The Jayhawks, who cracked the Top 25 earlier in the year after victories over two Top-10 opponents, will also host Nebraska and Baylor at Arrocha Ballpark this season.

General Admission season-ticket packages for softball are $40; KU Faculty and Staff packages are $32.

Members of the Williams Educational Fund who purchase season tickets will receive two (2) priority points per account regardless of the number of tickets purchased.

“I am probably more energized about this year than I have been in recent years,” said 13th-year head coach Tracy Bunge. “I’m excited about the challenge of the schedule and I’m excited about the talent that we have. “This is a fun group to coach. It’s a very diverse group, but one that has really come together as a team and is working for a common goal.”

KU will open the home season by hosting the KU Invitational beginning on Friday, March 6. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m., with the Jayhawks facing Texas-El Paso. Fans will receive free Twizzlers when KU scores its first run of the season in Arrocha Ballpark.

Season tickets may be purchased in person at the Allen Fieldhouse Ticket Office, by phone at (800) 34-HAWKS or online at kuathletics.com.
