MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –

Despite six strong innings from junior T.J. Walz, Kansas dropped its season-opener 3-1 to Eastern Michigan Monday evening at the Metrodome.

Walz held the Eagles to two runs on seven hits over six innings, but surrendered a solo home run to Matt Skirving and an RBI single to Ken Battison, which proved to be the difference for Eastern Michigan.

EMU pitcher Corey Chaffins held the Jayhawks to one run on just three hits over seven innings. Junior Jimmy Waters drove in KU’s only run of the game with a fourth-inning RBI single to plate Brian Heere, who walked to lead off the inning.

Game two of the doubleheader began at approximately 7:55 p.m.
