Sixth inning home runs from sophomore Amanda Jobe and junior Val Chapple gave the Kansas softball team a 2-1 edge over Boston University here Saturday afternoon as the Jayhawks improve to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in the Houston Tournament. <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Boston U. meanwhile drops to 1-3 with the loss.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Kansas struggled from the plate early in the game tallying just three hits through the first five innings, but made up for its lack of offense in the sixth with a pair of home runs to takeover a lead it would never lose. Jobe led off with a rope over the right field fence to tie the game at 1-1. One out later Chapple sent a pitch deep to left center giving KU the come from behind lead.

Junior Val George helped seal the deal pitching seven strong innings and tallying the last two outs of the game on strikeouts. George, now 4-1, struck out eight batters in the contest and allowed only four hits in her second solo shutout of the season.
