Wilbert Goes Undefeated in Singles in Kansas Tennis Double-header

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Sophomore Erin Wilbert won both singles matches to lead the Kansas tennis team in a double-header Sunday at Jayhawk Tennis Facility. Wilbert did not lose a set in her defeat of Iowa’s Jessica Young at No. 4 singles and South Dakota’s Rijalda Zejnic at No. 3 singles.

In the morning KU fell to Iowa 6-1, but bounced back with a 7-0 defeat of South Dakota in the afternoon.

In the first part of the day, No. 2 doubles team Morozova and Khanevskaya defeated Iowa’s Beelen and Chmelarovia for the lone doubles win. No.1 team Wilbert and Lazarevic took Molnar and Poggensee-Wei to a tiebreaker, but fell 9-8(3).

At No. 1 singles, Morozova took No. 65 Sonja Molnar to a first set tiebreaker, but fell 6-1 in the second set.

In the second dual versus South Dakota, the Jayhawks started out strong, winning all of the doubles matches and earning the doubles point.

In singles play, Kansas took control with victories in all six spots. Junior Kate Goff recorded a win in her first singles match this season.

KU will take the court again when it travels to Tulsa, Okla. Feb. 21.
