Kuzhil, Bunting and Proehl Lead Kansas on Day Two of Big 12 Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas –

Juniors Joy Bunting and Iuliia Kuzhil and senior Meghan Proehl led the Kansas swimming and diving team to a fourth place finish at the conclusion of day two of the Big 12 Championships Thursday.

Kuzhil finished in fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle and recorded a personal-best time of 22.86 in the preliminary round earlier in the day. Monica Johannessen, Emily Lanteigne and Amanda Maez scored points for Kansas in the event and freshman Lindsey Legako finished in the top 25.

Bunting recorded an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard IM and freshman Brooke Brull also put up points for the Jayhawks in the event.

Proehl finished in sixth place in the 1m diving competition. Senior Allison Ho and freshmen Christy Cash and Taylor Ilten also recorded top-25 finishes.

Kansas’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Johannessen, Kuzhil, Lanteigne and Maez started the evening off with a fourth place finish with a time of 1:31.62.

In the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore Shannon Garlie and freshman Rebecca Swank finished 13th and 14th respectively.
