Kansas Softball Falls to No. 12 Huskies

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. –

The University of Kansas softball team fell to No. 12 Washington, 4-0, Saturday in the nightcap of the 2005 Palm Springs Classic. The Jayhawks defeated Cal State Fullerton, 3-2, in eight innings earlier in the day.

With the loss, the Jayhawks moved to 6-7 on the season while the Huskies improved to 9-5 overall.

The Huskies scored first in the top of the third on four hits but left three on base. UW increased its lead to 2-0 in the fifth after Dominique Lastrapes notched a triple and scored after three Huskies walked. KU got out of the inning after sophomore Nicole Washburn caught a foul ball with bases loaded.

UW sealed the win in the top of the seventh as Sarah Hyatt hit a two-run homer over the left field fence. KU ended the top half of the inning with a double play by junior Destiny Frankenstein.

UW notched nine hits and left eight on base in the win. KU put just runners two on but was errorless in the field.

Freshman Christina Ross (2-3) struck out six and walked four in the complete game effort. UW freshman Caitlin Noble (3-3) struck out nine and walked two in her first career no-hitter.

KU will conclude tournament play Sunday against Arizona State at 1:30 p.m. (Central).
