Kansas Seniors Mayrovich and Herrmann Earn Spots in Finals

COLUMBIA, Mo. –
Kansas swimming and diving will have two participants in Thursday night’s finals after a successful preliminary round. Maria Mayrovich earned a spot in the 50 yard freestyle with a career-best time of 22.49. It was the third-fastest qualifying time. Danielle Herrmann had the seventh-fastest 200 yard I.M. time of 2:01.13.
The first preliminary event was the 500 yard freestyle. Kansas did not place a swimmer in the finals, but junior Emily Lanteigne finished in 15th place with a career-best time of 4:52.20. Freshman Shannon Garlie finished in 21st place with a time of 4:54.52.
Herrmann earned a spot in the 200 yard I.M. finals with a season-best time of 2:01.13. Sophomore Joy Bunting narrowly missed a spot in the top race, finishing ninth with a career-best time of 2:01.32. Sophomore Brittany Potter placed 22nd with a time of 2:05.72.
Mayrovich nearly broke a 26-year old school record in the 50 yard freestyle with her preliminary time of 22:49. Tammy Thomas is the current record holder with a time of 22.13, setting in the mark in 1983. Fellow Jayhawks Erin Goetz and Iuliia Kuzhil placed 10th and 14th, respectively.
