Despite a two-hitter by freshman pitcher Allie Clark, Kansas softball could not generate enough offense as it fell to No. 5/6 Northwestern, 2-0, during the Coach B Southern Classic.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

With the loss, KU drops to 12-5 overall, while Northwestern improves to 8-2 on the season.

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Clark, now 3-2 from the circle, faced 25 batters allowing just two hits and one earned run.

Northwestern pitcher Lauren Delaney didn’t give the Jayhawks much to work with as she limited KU to just one hit, a single by Elle Pottorf, through seven innings. Kansas had its best opportunity to score in the bottom of the third. With just one out, Delaney walked two consective Kansas batters but a fly out and a ground out ended the threat. The Jayhawks reached base just one more time during the contest, another base on balls in the fourth.

Northwestern tallied its first run in the top of the second. The Wildcats led off with a double to left field and scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Wildcats’ crossed home plate again in the sixth following an error by Kansas second baseman Sara Ramirez.
