Simien Shines in Final Home Game

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas men’s basketball team closed out the 2005 home schedule with a 72-65 victory over in-state rival Kansas State, Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. In his final home game, KU senior Wayne Simien put on a show as he scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds.

With the win the Jayhawks improve to 22-4 overall and 12-3 in Big 12 play. The win also clinches the regular season conference title for Kansas.

The Jayhawks took advantage from the free-throw line as they hit 17-of-20 from the charity stripe in the game.

Joining Simien in double-figures were fellow seniors Keith Langford and Aaron Miles, who scored 12 points each. Miles also added a game-high seven assists in his final home game. Senior Michael Lee added nine points in the win.

Senior Jeremiah Massey led three Wildcats in double-figures with 17 points. Sophomore Fred Peete added 16 points and eight rebounds, while senior Justin Williams chipped in with 10 points in the loss.

The Jayhawks will round out the regular season Sunday when KU travels to Columbia, Missouri to take on the Tigers. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Big 12 Tournament will take place March 10-13 at Kemper Arena in Kansas City.
