Grant Named Director Of Sports Medicine For Kansas Athletics

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />LAWRENCE, Kan. — Murphy Grant, head football athletic trainer at the University of Kansas since July 2006, has been named KU’s Director of Sports Medicine. In his new position, Grant will be responsible for the operation of the Sports Medicine Program, including the supervision and coordination of athletics trainers, rehabilitation services and athletics student trainers.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />

Grant will remain as football’s head athletic trainer.

Grant came to Kansas from OklahomaStateUniversity, where he worked for five years, first as assistant athletic trainer and then as head men’s basketball athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach. He was responsible for creating, implementing and coordinating the drug- and alcohol-testing/educational program for all OSU student-athletes. He was also a primary mentor and supervisor for several OSU graduate assistant athletic trainers, and was responsible for the nutritional program for OSU’s men’s basketball team.

In 1998 and 1999 Grant served in the Boston Red Sox organization, evaluating, treating and rehabilitating athletes in that organization.

Grant earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training at QuincyUniversity in Quincy, Illinois, and a Master’s degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation at IllinoisStateUniversity.
