Jayhawks Continue Spring Campaign at Louisiana Classics
March 5, 2010
LAWRENCE, Kan. –
For the fourth-straight season the Kansas men’s golf team will travel to Lafayette, La. to compete in the Louisiana Classics Invitational at Oakbourne Country Club.
The Jayhawks opened the spring season with a fourth-place finish at the Rice Intercollegiate Feb. 15-16. Junior Nate Barbee continued his spectacular junior campaign with his fifth top-10 finish of the year at the event. Barbee finished tied for 12th at last year’s event, including two under-par rounds.
“We are looking forward to building off the momentum we created during the final round at the Rice Intercollegiate,” said head coach Kit Grove.
Coach Kit Grove will utilize the lineup of Barbee, senior Bryan Hackenberg, junior Jeff Bell, and freshmen Chris Gilbert and Alex Gutesha for the fifth-straight event. Freshman Dan Waite will compete in the tournament as an individual.
The 15-team field will play 36 holes on March 8, followed by the final round on March 9. Colorado is the lone other Big 12 school participating in the event.
KU finished ninth at the 2009 Louisiana Classics. Walt Koelbel led the Jayhawks by tying for third place. The finish marked the best finish of Koelbel’s career.
