OPENING TIP

The University of Kansas will face #18/17 Baylor in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship tonight at 8:30 p.m. Tonight’s contest between the 11-seed Jayhawks and three-seed Lady Bears will air on Fox Sports Net.

NOTING KANSAS

HOW THEY GOT HERE

Kansas defeated Oklahoma State, 71-62, last night in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. Junior Taylor McIntosh scored 16 of her career-high 19 points in the second half and added 13 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season and fourth of her career. Senior Shaquina Mosley pitched in 18 points and seven rebounds while freshmen Danielle McCray (16), Kelly Kohn (14) and Sade Morris (4) rounded out the scoring for Kansas.

Kansas held Oklahoma State without a field goal for the first 7:36 of the second half to take a 47-45 lead. The teams traded leads five time in the second half and 10 total. After shooting 5-for-10 from behind the 3-point arc in the first half, the Cowgirls were held to just 1-for-16 (6.3 percent) from behind the arc in the second stanza.

The tournament victory was KU’s first since defeating Iowa State in 2003. Kansas became the fourth No. 11-seed to knock off a 6-seed in the 11 years of the Big 12 Championship.

FIRST MEETING RECAP

The ninth-ranked Baylor Lady Bears defeated the University of Kansas, 71-64, Saturday Jan. 6 at Allen Fieldhouse. Freshman LaChelda Jacobs led a spirited effort by the Jayhawks with 18 points and five rebounds while senior Sharita Smith added a spark off the bench with eight points.

Freshman Kelly Kohn also scored in double figures for KU. She finished 6-of-17 from the field for 14 points and added three assists and three rebounds. Fellow rookie Porscha Weddington grabbed six rebounds to go along with her four points and also recorded a season-high four blocks. Junior Taylor McIntosh played 31 minutes, finishing with eight points and three rebounds.
