LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas softball defeated Eastern Illinois 4-2 at the KU Invitational Saturday afternoon at Arrocha Ballpark. The win improves the Jayhawks’ record to 8-13 on the season and drops the Panthers to 8-5.

Eastern Illinois opened the game with three straight singles off KU pitcher Val George but failed to capitalize in the first inning.

Kansas got on the board first after Amanda Jobe hit a solo home run over the centerfield fence in the bottom of the second inning. The shot was Jobe’s first of the season and 14th of her career, moving her into KU’s top ten career home run list.

Stevie Crisosto connected with her 31st career double in the bottom of the third inning, moving her into a tie for sixth place with Val Chapel and Shelly Musser (1999-02) on the KU career doubles list.

In the forth inning the Panthers strung together three consecutive singles to load the bases. Sarah Coppert came through for Eastern Illinois with a two-run single to give the Panthers the lead at 2-1.

The Jayhawks responded in their half of the fourth, scoring three runs on four hits. Back-to-back doubles by Liz Kocon and Hile allowed KU to tie the game at two. Jobe then scorched a triple to deep right center field to score Hile. The Jayhawks added one more run with a single by Sarah Blair that plated Jobe.

George pitched seven innings for the Jayhawks, allowing three walks while striking out nine as she improved to 7-6 from the circle.

The Jayhawks return to action Sunday to take on North Dakota State at noon and Northern Iowa at 4 p.m. at Arrocha Ballpark. Check back to www.kuathletics.com for complete coverage of the KU Invitational.
