Kansas Postgame Quotes

Kansas 15, Iowa 7

March 7, 2010

Kansas Head Coach Ritch Price

On the offensive production:

“I thought the quality of our at bats improved all weekend. We laid off the breaking ball and the changeup out of the zone. I thought we made progress offensively in the course the weekend.”

On today making it a good weekend:

“They’re a good, solid Big Ten Conference team and we needed to win three out the four after we dropped that second game (on Friday). I’m proud of the way we came back the last two days.”

On things coming together for the pitching staff:

“I think (Cameron) Selik and (T.J.) Walz gave us two quality starts (this weekend). While (Brett) Bollman was effective, and kept us in the game, (but) I didn’t think he was sharp and didn’t throw strikes. We gave up seven runs and they only had six hits. If we do that in our conference, we’re going to get beaten. We need to pitch to contact and play defense in order to win our league.”

Freshman outfielder Jake Marasco

On going 4-for-4 against Iowa:

“It’s been going well (the last week). After the first game, I didn’t have so hot of (a performance) and kind of got back out there and let that one go. Having a day like this today is – hopefully – a breakout day.”

On his confidence hitting:

“Hitting is definitely contagious – just like when you’re on the mound and guys are out there throwing strikes and the guys behind him make good plays typically. With hitting, you see a guy ahead of you go up and lace a ball, then it’s going to make you want to go up there and be relaxed. You realize you can do it too and keep things going.”

On whether this weekend is an indication of the offense’s talent:

“Our offense started off slow the first few games, but they’re getting back going. We do have a big hole with Tony (Thompson) gone. He’s one of the best players in the America. When he gets back, that’s just another huge weapon for us. We can definitely produce runs, right now, but with Tony back, that will just be another added bonus.”
