Postgame Quotes

Kansas 10, Northwestern 1

March 8, 2009

Kansas Head Coach Ritch Price

On the team’s offensive performance:

“Obviously, the wind was blowing out today and that’s a huge help. We hit some balls hard today, but we also hit some balls in the wind that blew out of the ballpark. I think we have potential. Buck (Afenir) has hit double-digit (home runs) before, and that’s also our expectation of Tony (Thompson). If we can get that kind of production out of those two guys, then there are other guys who can hit four or five (home runs) and I think we’ll be okay.”

On playing at home:

“We’ve done a nice job of playing at home. Obviously the routine is better for the players without the travelling and late nights. We definitely want to use the home field to our advantage. Our players were really thrilled with the crowds from Friday and Saturday night and I think it energizes the players. I think they played well as a result of it.”

On freshman pitcher Lee Ridenhour:

“We’re pleased with his progress. He still needs to work on his change-up, but in his development he has all the tools to be a very special young man.”

On the rain delay:

“I was impressed (with the team’s focus). We had a good meeting before hand and we had experienced players at the plate which leads to success.”

On the upcoming games:

“We’re going to go through a stretch here in the next couple weeks in which I don’t think anyone in the country is going to face a tougher schedule (than ours). It’s about as tough of a three-week period as you can be involved in. We need to get better Wednesday (against Wichita State) and prepare for the weekend and prepare for the Big 12. It’ll be a challenge, and I think our players are looking forward to it.”
