Postgame Quotes

Kansas Head Coach Ritch Price

On the close end to the second game…

“It got a little scary in the ninth inning. When you’re looking at that big of a margin and then all of the sudden the tying run is at second, obviously we would have liked to not see it get as close as that. But I also think it was good for him [Paul Smyth] to have to come into that situation and try to find a way to get a couple left-handed hitters out. That’s what he really struggled with a year ago.”

On KU pitcher Nick Czyz…

“I thought he had complete command. Basically it was a pretty dominating performance with the number of strikeouts that he had. My only concern was that every count was 2-2 or 3-2. Obviously in our league, the more pitches those hitters see the more apt they are to be on time. I think it’s really important that he does a better job of trying to get guys out on three pitches.”

On KU’s hitting…

“I felt good about some of those guys breaking out. I just looked at the stat sheet and Allman got his average up to .300. On top of that, Erik Morrison broke out in the second game and Robby [Price] got four hits in the double header. So the three guys that have been struggling a little bit got it going (today). Now we just have to get a little better consistency with some of our people.”
