Making its third trip to Florida this season, the University of Kansas softball team (17-3) will travel to Jacksonville for the North Florida Tournament this weekend, March 11-13. The Jayhawks will go up against Mount St. Mary’s (3-2) Friday afternoon before taking on Alabama State (3-8) and Delaware State (5-2) Saturday. KU will conclude the tournament with a contest versus North Florida (9-9) on Sunday.

With 17 wins so far this season, Kansas is five victories shy of passing its win total of 21 from 2010. The Jayhawks’ success has been aided by the teams’ early offensive dominance. KU is fourth in the Big 12 Conference hitting .325 as a team and has seven starters hitting over .300. The Jayhawks also own 29 home runs through their first 20 games. Senior Brittany Hile took over the top spot following last weekend’s UNLV tournament as she leads Kansas with a .379 average. Hile is second in the conference with eight home runs and also ranks fourth with 25 RBIs. Junior Liz Kocon follows with a .370 batting average and ranks in the top 10 of the conference in runs scored (20-t8th) and walks (20-t2nd).

The KU bullpen is led by freshman Kristin Martinez, who is 12th in the league with a 1.80 ERA. She is tied for second in the Big 12 with 14 appearances and tied for third with nine wins after picking up all three of KU’s victories last weekend.
