LAWRENCE, Kan.–Freshman Maria Belen Ludueña fought to another singles victory, but the University of Kansas Jayhawks could not contain No. 56 Oklahoma State, falling 6-1 to the Cowgirls Sunday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

The Jayhawks dropped their fourth-straight match against a ranked opponent, making them 7-4 on the season and 0-2 in the Big 12, while the Cowgirls improved to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

After dropping the decision at No. 2 doubles, junior Monica Pezzotti and sophomore Dylan Windom notched a win for KU at the No. 1 spot, defeating OSU’s Malika Rose and Kanyapat Narattana, 8-5. With the doubles point on the line, sophomore Claire Dreyer and junior Victoria Khanevskaya battled from three games down to tie it at 4-4 before falling at No. 3, 8-5, giving OSU the first point of the day.

Ludueña, ranked 118th in the Campbell/ITA Singles Rankings, claimed KU’s lone singles victory at the No. 3 position. The freshman from Curico, Chile, came from one set down to take down Meghan Blevins in a tiebreak thriller, 4-6, 6-3 (11-9).

Kansas will travel to Las Vegas next weekend for three non-conference matches. The Jayhawks will take on Houston on March 17, Idaho on March 18 and Bowling Green on March 19. Times are still to be determined.
