March 12, 2005

Lawrence, Kan. – The University of Kansas tennis team fell to No. 36 Nebraska, 6-1, Saturday at Robinson Courts in Lawrence. KU’s lone victory came from junior Christine Skoda in singles action, as the Edmonton, Alberta, native edged Nebraska’s Imke Reimers in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (7).

Nebraska started the day off by winning all three doubles matches. In No. 1 doubles, KU’s team of sophomore Brittany Brown and freshman Lauren Hommell lost to Gitte Ostermann and Katie Garcia, 8-4.

In singles play, the Jayhawks fought hard, but were only able to come up with the one victory from Skoda. Freshmen Lauren Hommell held off four match points from Nebraska’s Ewelina Skaza in the second set, but fell short as Skaza pulled away in the third set for a 6-3, 6-7 (0), 6-2 victory. In No. 1 singles action, freshman Elizaveta Avdeeva lost to Ostermann, who is ranked No. 18 in the country, 6-0, 6-1.
