Jayhawks to Face Rival Kansas State

March 14, 2006

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The 74th ranked University of Kansas tennis team will look to get back on the winning track on Wednesday when it travels to Manhattan to face Sunflower State-rival Kansas State. Match time is set for 2 p.m.

The Jayhawks (5-5, 0-2) are coming off two close losses last weekend to Iowa and Oklahoma State. Junior Stephanie Smith, who was inserted into KU’s lineup last weekend for the first time this season, had a great showing, winning both of her singles matches.

Also playing well for Kansas was sophomore Elizaveta Avdeeva, who went 2-0 in singles play, and the doubles tandem of Christine Skoda and Brittany Brown, who were victorious in both of their contests.

Kansas State comes in ranked 56th in the country with a 5-4 record including a 1-2 mark in conference play. The Wildcats had a similar weekend to that of Kansas’, dropping closely-contested matches to both Iowa and Oklahoma State in Manhattan.

Wednesday’s match will be the first of three straight road dates for KU. Following the dual with KSU, the Jayhawks will travel to Baton Rouge, La. to face Southern on March 19 and LSU on March 21.
