March 17, 2006

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Freshman swimmer Ashley Leidigh competed in the 100-fly at the NCAA Championships March 17 in Athens, Ga., marking the first of two events for the Merriam, Kan., native at the event. Leidigh will swim in the 200-fly March 18, with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m. Leidigh finished Friday’s race in 55.51 to take 43rd place. Only the top 16 finishers advanced to compete in the finals at 6 p.m.

“Ashley’s swim was really solid, but not quite the result we were looking for,” said KU head coach Clark Campbell. “She gained valuable experience and we’re looking forward to her swim tomorrow in the 200-fly.”

Leidigh will compete in the 200-fly during competition March 18. For complete results following the race visit www.kuathletics.com. For up-to-the-minute results, go to http://georgiadogs.collegesports.com/swimming_diving/2006/live/ncaa/index.htm.
