Gruber Places 18th; Short Places 36th at NCAA Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Two Kansas swimmers, senior Amy Gruber and sophomore Jenny Short, competed at the second day of the 2005 NCAA Swimming Championships in West Lafayette, Ind. Gruber finished 18th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.07. Short finished 36th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.90.

“We were really pleased with Amy and Jenny’s swims today,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “This was Amy’s best finish of her career at the NCAA Championships and she is looking forward to her best event tomorrow in the 100 freestyle. Jenny’s swim was one of the best I have ever seen by a swimmer in their first NCAA Championship meet.”

Both Kansas swimmers will compete at the final day of the NCAA Championships, Saturday, in West Lafayette, Ind. Gruber will compete in the 100 freestyle and Short will compete in the 200 backstroke event. Complete Kansas results will be available on the swimming and diving website following the competition.
