Jayhawks place 11th at Betsy Rawls Invite

AUSTIN, Texas –

Led by senior Amanda Costner and freshman Camilla Svensson, the University of Kansas women’s golf team placed 11th in the three-day the Betsy Rawls Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday at The University of Texas Golf Club (6,323 yards, par 72). The Jayhawks shot a 311 during the final day to finish with a three-day total of 943. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Purdue won the event with a three-day total of 907, which included a tournament-best round of 292 Sunday.

Costner was KU’s top finisher, placing 15th for the tournament. The Claremore, Okla. native carded a final round total of 76 to finish the weekend with a 229 (79-74-76).

Svensson joined Costner in the top 30, tying for 28th-place in the tourney. The KU freshman shot a final day total of 77 to move up from 37th-place after two rounds. Freshman Emily Powers carded a third-day total of 79 to finish tied for 36th.

Freshman Megan Gockel (82-80-79–241) and junior Annie Giangrosso (81-80-82–243) rounded out KU’s finishers at the invitational.

Purdue’s Maria Hernandez earned medallist honors by shooting a pair of 70’s during the final two days of competition. Hernandez carded a 217 for the tournament.

The Jayhawks will return to action on March 24-25 for the Mountain View Collegiate Invite in Tucson, Ariz.
