March 22, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

For the first time since 2006, the University of Kansas softball team is ranked in the top 25, as the Jayhawks made their 2011 debut in the polls coming in at No. 22 in the Ultimate College Softball Poll released Tuesday, March 22.

KU, which had been receiving votes in at least one of the three major softball polls for the last four weeks, was last ranked in the top 25 when it landed the No. 22 spot in the final ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll on June 6, 2006.

The Jayhawks recently concluded the weekend with a 5-0 mark, including an extra-inning victory versus Georgia Tech to spoil to the Yellow Jackets’ 14-game winning streak, to win the Coastal Carolina Chanticleer Classic. It was KU’s fifth pre-conference tournament title this season. Kansas also extended its 11-game winning streak as it improved to 26-3 overall.

Kansas is preparing for its Big 12 Conference opener versus No. 16/13 Missouri on Wednesday, March 23. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
