Postgame Quotes

Kansas 5, Creighton 4

March 23, 2010 – Lawrence, Kan.

Junior Third Baseman Tony Thompson

On his first game back from injury:

“I am not up to par with the bat right now, but I figure if I get a few swings in before Big 12 play, I am going to progress really quick. Hopefully I can build off what I did defensively tonight and start moving around a little better.”

On what is wrong with his swing:

“I have not really seen to many live arms. It’s been seven weeks and I don’t really expect to be too sharp right now. Hopefully I can catch on quick and contribute to the offense.”

On being anxious his first time back:

“I had a little adrenaline going on early in the game. Everybody has been supporting me really well and I just wanted to help them out. I’m sure I was a little anxious. I just need to work on my approach a little bit and stay within myself and I think good things will happen.”

Head Coach Ritch Price

On the play of Brett Bochy:

“He has been really special. We are kind of snake bitten right now, we gave up three two-strike base hits in that inning that they tied it up in. That is the same thing that happened to us in St. Louis. Obviously I am thrilled with the progress that Brett has made.”

On the win:

“I think that some guys contributed that have struggled a little bit (this season). It was good to see BrandonMacias get himself going. It was really good to see him come through in the clutch because the only way that we are going to be good is to be good No. 1 through 9 (in the batting order). We have been as consistent one through nine as we could be, but obviously we are going to get better now that Thompson is in the line up.”

On Tony Thompson coming back:

“I feel a whole lot better about myself when I fill the line up card up. He is a little off as you guys can see. This is Feb. 1 for him – that is the last time that he had swung the bat. We don’t expect him to be on time yet, it is still spring training for him.”
