Former University of Kansas Track Athlete John C. Davis Passes Away

Obituary for John C. Davis

John C. Davis, age 73, a resident of Naperville for over 25 years passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice in Joliet. He was born August 25, 1937 in Springfield, Mo.

Mr. Davis earned his business degree from the University of Kansas and was a member of the university track team that won the National Championship in 1959. He was also a lifetime member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association and was a member of the K Club, the Letterman’s Club for the University.

Mr. Davis served in the U. S. Air Force during the Berlin crisis. He was an avid runner, and was a member of the Chicago Area Runners Association and participated in 26 marathons including the five majors: Chicago, Boston, New York, London and Berlin.

In addition, he was a very active member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Naperville where he was a member of the Knight of Columbus, a PADS volunteer and served as an Extraordinary Minister. He was also a member of the Naperville Communities Woodys Softball Team.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn E. (nee Prothman) Davis; his children: Paul A. Davis (Anthony Peiffer), Kendall D. (Michael) Born and Kourtney D. (Erik) Rabinowitz; three grandchildren: Kiara Born and Hannah and Rosalyn Rabinowitz; and two brothers, Richard and Robert Davis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, located at 87th & Lisson Road in Naperville, Ill. Private interment will take place at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 27 from 4-8 p.m. at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 516 S. Washington Street in Naperville.
