Kansas’ win over Richmond…
… Made the Jayhawks 35-2, which tied for second-most season victories in school history.
… Advanced KU to the NCAA Elite Eight for the 20th time in school history.
… Gave KU an 88-38 record all-time in the NCAA tourney, including 19-8 in Sweet 16 games.
… Improved KU to 27-8 as a No. 1 seed.
… Gave KU an 11-game winning streak, its second longest of the season. The Jayhawks also had an 18-game streak to open the season.
… Made KU 19-1 in games away from Allen Fieldhouse this season (9-1 in true road games and 10-0 on neutral floors).
… Tied the all-time series between KU and Richmond at 1-1.
… Made head coach Bill Self 237-45 while at KU, 445-150 all-time and 28-11 in NCAA Tournament play, 18-6 while at Kansas.
… Made Kansas 2,038-798 all-time.
Notes
– Kansas started F Markieff Morris, F Marcus Morris, G Tyshawn Taylor, G Brady Morningstar and G Tyrel Reed for the fourth straight game and the 16th time this season. Kansas is 15-1 when that group starts.
– Kansas is now 27-8 all-time as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament including 4-0 against the No. 12 seed.
– The win marked Kansas’ 132nd in the past four years which extended the school record for a four-year span. Senior Tyrel Reed has dressed all four of those years, while current redshirt senior Conner Teahan and fifth-year redshirt Brady Morningstar were also part of the team. The four-year NCAA record is 133 by Duke.
– Thomas Robinson posted his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds in just 16 minutes played. The Jayhawks have had at least one player post a double-double in six of the last nine games.
– Thomas Robinson’s 14 rebounds were a career-high. His previous high was 13 vs. Missouri on March 5. It was the seventh time this season he collected double-digit boards and the eighth time in his career.
– Marcus Morris increased his career point total to 1,351 which makes him 25th on the KU all-time scoring list. He moved past Mario Chalmers (1,241 points, 2006-08).
– Marcus Morris moved up the KU single season lists for points scored and field goals made. On the scoring list, Morris passed Ron Kellogg (622 points in 1986) and Wilt Chamberlain (633 points in 1958) for 14th place with 634 points so far this season. He now has 232 field goals made this season which ties him with Kirk Hinrich (2003) and Raef LaFrentz (1998) for 18th place.
– Markieff Morris tied Greg Dreiling (650 rebounds, 1984-86) for 18th place on the KU all-time rebounding list. He now has 650 career boards.
– Markieff Morris’ 17 minutes played (due to early fouls) were his lowest since the UMKC game when he played only 12 minutes.
– Markieff Morris grabbed six rebounds to increase his season total to 304 which passed Eric Chenowith (301 rebounds in 1999) for 19th place on the KU season list.
– Brady Morningstar scored a team-high 18 points which was one off his season-high of 19 at Nebraska on Feb. 5. It was his ninth game of the season in double-figures and the 16th time he had done so in his career. It was the second time of his career to lead KU in scoring.
– Brady Morningstar cracked the KU all-time top 20 for three-point field goals attempted. He now has 278 as he passed Jacque Vaughn (274, 1994-97) for 20th place.
– Brady Morningstar’s seven made field goals tied his career high, also done vs. Coppin State on Nov. 28, 2008.
– Brady Morningstar had two steals against Richmond to make his career total 130 and move him past Keith Langford (129 steals from 2002-05) for 21st place on the KU single season list.
– Tyrel Reed was 2-of-4 from 3-point land which makes him 71-of-183 for the season. The 71 made ranks 16th on the KU single season list (passing Sherron Collins – 70 in 2010). The 183 attempted ranks 15th (passing Jerod Haase – 180 in 1995; and J.R. Giddens – 182 in 2004).
– Tyshawn Taylor dished seven assists to up his season total to 161 and tie Sherron Collins (2010) and Russell Robinson (2007) for 21st place on the KU single season list.
– Tyshawn Taylor had a career-high tying two blocked shots. He has done it two other times including against Colorado State this season.
– Kansas has outrebounded 30 of 37 opponents this year including its last seven. Kansas has outshot its opponent 32 times this year.
– Richmond’s 10 fouls committed were a KU opponent season low.
– Kansas, which averages a nation-best 17.9 assists, dished 20 assists against Richmond. It was the 13th time this season the Jayhawks had 20 or more dimes.
– Kansas emptied its bench with 13 players seeing action.
– Kansas is holding its NCAA opponents (Boston University, Illinois, Richmond) to 35.8 percent shooting from the field. Richmond shot 33.8 percent. Kansas has won its first three NCAA games by an average of 17.7 points per game.
