March 29, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Freshman Whitney Berry scored two goals, while sophomore Emily Cressy assisted on both as the Kansas women’s soccer team fell to the KU Men’s Club Team by a narrow 3-2 margin Saturday afternoon at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. The exhibition match was the first of the spring for the Jayhawks.

The KU women competed well, holding the men’s team to three goals and taking leads in both the first and second halves.

The Jayhawks gained the first advantage in the first half when Cressy found Berry on a set piece. Berry, a 2009 Big 12 All-Freshman team selection, scored six goals during her first season at KU.

After the men’s team tied the score before the halftime intermission, the Jayhawks took a second lead as again Cressy found Berry with a through-ball giving KU a 2-1 advantage.

Cressy nearly gave the Jayhawks a two-goal advantage in the second half when her shot rang off the crossbar and bounced out.

The Jayhawks were able to play their entire roster, including goalkeepers Kat Liebetrau and Logan Reed, who each played a half.

KU will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark. for a 2 p.m. game against the University of Arkansas.
