Searching for its first home victory of the 2011 season, Kansas softball (27-8, 0-4 Big 12) will face its third-straight ranked Big 12 foe when it welcomes No. 13/16 Nebraska (28-4, 1-1 Big 12) this weekend, April 2-3, in a two-game conference series at Arrocha Ballpark. Saturday’s first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. while Sunday’s finale will begin at 1 p.m.

Kansas, which is ranked No. 40 in the initial NCAA softball rating percentage index (RPI) report, stopped a five-game skid with a win in the nightcap versus UMKC Wednesday night. Junior Liz Kocon went 4-for-7 in the doubleheader to improve her batting average to .354, second to only Maggie Hull’s .376 average. Hull also leads KU with 35 RBIs, which tie for the 10th-most in a KU single season.

The Jayhawk pitching staff will have the task of slowing one the Big 12’s top offensive teams as the Huskers are third in the league hitting .342. KU freshman Kristin Martinez (12-3) is tops on the squad with a 2.17 ERA and 58 strikeouts in a team-high 96.2 innings of work.
