<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LAWRENCE, Kan. – The KU tennis team will renew the Border Showdown on Saturday when it travels to Columbia to take on Missouri. Play is set to begin at 1 p.m.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Jayhawks enter the weekend on a bit of a slide after dropping three contests in a row, including road duals to No. 16 Baylor and No. 69 Texas Tech last weekend. The road trip did have its highlights though, as Kansas’ top doubles tandem of junior Elizaveta Avdeeva and sophomore Edina Horvath picked up a win over Baylor’s No. 1 duo of Zuzana Cerna and Zuzana Chmerlarova. Avdeeva and Horvath’s 5-1 league record has the duo in second place in the No. 1 position in the Big 12.

KU also got singles wins from junior Lauren Hommell and sophomore Yuliana Svistun against the Lady Raiders. Hommell’s win, which came over TTU’s Kerryn Potgieter, was her first conference victory of the season.

Kansas currently holds a record of 4-11, including a 2-4 Big 12 mark which has them in a three-way tie for seventh place with Texas Tech and Nebraska.

Missouri comes in struggling as well, as the Tigers have dropped seven of their last eight duals. MU’s 1-7 conference record has them in 10th place, and its only league win came over KansasState on March 3 in Columbia.

Last season, the Jayhawks handled MU, 6-1, in Lawrence on April 8. KU took five of the six singles contests, including wins from current Jayhawks Avdeeva, Hommell and Horvath. Kansas also swept all three doubles matches.
