Kansas Women's Golf to Wrap Regular Season at Baylor Spring Invitational

April 8, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan.—Kansas women’s golf will close out the regular season at the Baylor Spring Invitational at Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco, Texas, April 11 and 12.

“This is a new tournament for us so we will really need to focus on getting the most out of our practice round as possible,” said Kansas head coach Erin O’Neil.

Kansas is led by freshman Thanuttra Boonraksasat who has been the top finisher for the Jayhawks in the last two events and is averaging a team low 75.65 strokes per round. Boonraksasat tied for 4th, a career best, at the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate on March 26.

Joining Boonraksasat in the Kansas lineup are junior Katy Nugent (75.73 strokes per round), senior Grace Thiry (76.15 strokes per round), senior Meghna Bal (76.85 strokes per round) and Meghan Potee (78.42 strokes per round). Senior Jennifer Clark, who is averaging 79 strokes per round on the year, will be competing as an individual.

“The team made some positive changes to their mental game and strategy last week at Ole Miss which we can definitely build on in the coming weeks,” said O’Neil.

The Jayhawks will face 17 teams, including Big 12 teams Baylor, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas Tech, in the team’s final competition before the Big 12 tournament. Also in the field are Augusta State, McLennan CC, Missouri State, North Texas, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, SMU, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, UAB, Arkansas-Little Rock and Texas-San Antonio.

“We will need to be very determined, positive, and put ourselves in the best position possible for each shot every time we tee it up in competition and in practice,” O’Neil said. “If we play within our own game the next few weeks, there is no doubt that we have the ability finish strong and perhaps create a little history along the way.”

Kansas will compete in the Big 12 Championship in Columbia, Mo., April 22-24.
