KU Volleyball Wins Five-Set Match Versus Iowa

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Junior Karina Garlington and sophomore Allison Mayfield each recorded a double-double as the Kansas volleyball team defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 3-2 Saturday in the Jayhawks’ final home match of the spring season.

Garlington led four Jayhawks in double-digit kills with 23 to go along with 10 digs. Mayfield contributed 14 kills and 16 digs in the effort. Her digs were second only to junior libero Melissa Manda, who finished with 27.

After winning the first two sets, Iowa stormed back to claim victories in the third and fourth sets and knot the match at two sets apiece. In the fifth and deciding frame, the Jayhawks hung on to win 16-14.

Junior Jenna Kaiser and freshman Caroline Jarmoc each had 10 kills on offense for KU. Jarmoc also added two service aces.

Along the front row, Mayfield and freshman Tayler Tolefree were effective on defense as both notched three blocks assists.

Kansas volleyball will close out its spring schedule on Saturday, April 17 when it travels to Texas Christian University.
