Women's Golf to Finish Spring Season at Big 12 Championship

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Kansas women’s golf team is slated to finish its spring season at the Big 12 Championship April 16-18, hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas. The 54-hole tournament will feature 18 holes each on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Ridgewood Country Club (par-72/6,142 yards). Split tees will begin at 9 a.m. Monday and Tuesday and at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

“Our goal is to go into the Big 12 Championship with the same mentality we have had all year, which is to take it one shot at a time and do the best we can each day,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “The two previous tournaments have been a good confidence boost for us, and the players are starting to see some of their hard work pay off.”

Senior Amanda Costner, junior Annie Giangrosso and freshmen Camilla Svensson, Emily Powers and Meghan Gockel will be representing the Jayhawks at the tournament.

Kansas will compete along with the other Big 12 schools including: Baylor, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Texas A&M finished first at last year’s Big 12 Championship in Lincoln, Neb.

The Jayhawks last competed at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic where they finished fourth as a team. Senior Amanda Costner shot 72 in the final round to tie for 10th place at one-over par with a final score of 217 (75-70-72–217).
