April 15, 2009

After sweeping previously No. 18 Oklahoma State last weekend, the Kansas baseball team has been named the national team of the week by College Baseball Insider for the week of April 15.

The Jayhawks have won six in a row, beginning with a two-game sweep at Iowa last week in Iowa City, winning 5-4 and 9-3. KU then took down Oklahoma State, winning the three games by scores of 8-1, 13-6 and 4-3 in 10 innings. It marked the Jayhawks’ first three-game sweep of the Cowboys since 1993. On Tuesday evening, KU downed Creighton, 7-6 in 10 innings in a game played at historic Rosenblatt Stadium.

KU, ranked 24th in the country by Baseball America, is currently 24-12 overall, including 7-5 in the Big 12 Conference. The Jayhawks have gone 9-8 against the Top 25 this season.

Kansas will travel to Lubbock, Texas to begin a three-game series with Texas Tech Friday evening at Dan Law Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. All three games from the series can be heard on KLWN (1320 AM) in Lawrence.
