Chris Howard Joins Kansas Athletics Staff

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Chris Howard, an associate athletics director at Louisiana State University, has been named Associate Athletics Director for Alumni Relations at the University of Kansas, Athletics Director Lew Perkins announced Monday. Howard will work with the Williams Educational Fund to promote Kansas Athletics and develop opportunities for athletics alumni of KU.

Howard has served at LSU since 2003. Prior to that, the St. Louis native was a member of the NCAA Enforcement staff from 2001-03; he was employed by the law firm of Bond Schoeneck and King from 1998-2001. Howard previously worked at KU from 1996-98, serving as a supervisor in Student Support Services.

At LSU, Howard served as the liaison between LSU, the NCAA and SEC offices for rules interpretations and other matters. He developed and coordinated educational components for staff, student-athletes, booster organizations and entities outside the athletics department regarding NCAA compliance issues. In addition, Howard drafted and reviewed contracts negotiated by the athletics department and directly supervised the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs.

Howard earned a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Kansas in 1997. He added a master’s in science degree in education and a jurist doctor degree from KU in 2001; he received the Justice Lloyd Kagey Leadership Award during his final year at the KU law school.

Howard was a combat medical specialist in the United States Army from 1990 to 1995; he served in Operation Desert Storm with the 24th Infantry Division.

Howard is married to the former Krista Morgan. The couple has two children, Oliva, 4, and Langston, 1.
