April 16, 2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After two weeks off Kansas women’s golf returns to action April 18-19 when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the Lady Buckeye Invitational, hosted by Ohio State. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,228 yard Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club.

“We are looking forward to competing at Ohio State this weekend,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “Our main goal is to take advantage of the past tournament experiences from this spring and end the regular season on a high note.”

The Jayhawks will use the lineup of Emily Powers, Grace Thiry, Sydney Wilson, Meghan Gockel and Meghna Bal. Jennifer Clark will be competing as an individual. Powers leads the team with four top-ten finishes and a 75.80 scoring average on the season.

“We have had some key players like Meghan Gockel and Grace Thiry step up for us and help the team with our best finishes so far,” said O’Neil. “Our success will depend greatly on how mentally tough we can be coming down the stretch with this tournament and the Big 12 Championship next week in Lubbock (Texas).”

Tee-time for both Saturday and Sunday is set for 8:30 a.m. Live scoring of the event can be found at golfstat.com. Check back to kuathletics.com for complete coverage of the Lady Buckeye Invitational.
