Kansas to Host 2011 Big 12 Rowing Championship at End of April

April 19, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas rowing will host the 2011 Big 12 Rowing Championship April 30 at Wyandotte County Lake in Kansas City, Kan. This will mark the second time KU has hosted the event in its three-year history as Kansas hosted the inaugural Big 12 Rowing Championship in 2009.

“We’re excited about the Big 12 Rowing Championship,” said Kansas head rowing coach Rob Catloth. “This will be the third year of the event. This week, two of the four teams are ranked in the top 20 nationally. Every year the level of racing at the regatta gets better and the competition gets tougher. We’re really excited to be hosting it at Wyandotte County Lake this year. I think it’s going to be a great regatta with some high-quality competition.”

Kansas Athletics has launched a webpage for the Big 12 Rowing Championship at http://www.kuathletics.com/sports/w-rowing/spec-rel/big12rowing.html. The page contains the official schedule of events as well as the scoring system that will be used to determine the 2011 Big 12 Rowing Champion. Additional information, including lane assignments, will be added to the page when it becomes available closer to the event date.

The Big 12 Rowing Championship will consist of five races, beginning with the Second Novice Eight at 10 a.m., and concluding with the First Varsity Eight at 11:20 a.m. The Big 12 Conference has four member schools that compete in rowing – Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas.
