Kansas Brings Home Several Medals From Tennessee

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Kansas rowing finished the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta on Sunday in Oak Ridge, Tenn., with several impressive performances. KU’s Varsity Four and First Novice Eight boats each placed third in their respective events.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Jayhawk First Varsity Eight boat, fresh off a blazing Saturday performance, placed fourth in the regatta’s premier event. Kansas crossed the wire in 6:51.50 and which trailed Kansas State’s time by only 1.3 seconds. Last week, Kansas fell to K-State by a 6.7 second margin.

The Varsity Four boat placed third in a time of 8:16.0. The Second Varsity Eight placed fourth in its race with a time of 7:07.21.

The Jayhawk Novice Boats also had a good weekend as the First Novice Eight boat placed third in a time of 7:04.90, and only 3.0 seconds off Grand Valley State’s winning time. The Second Varsity Eight won the `B’ Final in a time of 7:26.86.

“We made good improvement from last week,” said KU head coach Rob Catloth. “Our First Varsity Eight boat had the second fastest time in school history yesterday. Our team continues to improve its speed. I’m pleased with our performance across the board.”
