#17 Nebraska Takes Game From KU, 1-0

LINCOLN, Neb. –

Kansas softball lost a 1-0 contest to #17 Nebraska Wednesday night at Bowlin Stadium. With the loss, the Jayhawks moved to 27-22 overall and 6-8 in Big 12 play while the Huskers improved to 36-8 and 10-4.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

NU’s Ashley DeBuhr struck out the first seven Jayhawks to start the game and finished with a season-high 16 Ks through seven innings. DeBuhr (19-6) walked two and kept the Jayhawk bats silent for her second no-hitter of the season.

Nebraska scored its run in the bottom of the fourth off three hits. Crystal Carwile led off with a single and Devin Porter followed with a base hit to move her into scoring position. Serena Settlemier stepped in to pitch for KU starter Kassie Humphreys and NU’s Katie Linke found a hole between shortstop and third base to score Carwile, RBI.

Porter notched two of NU’s six hits on the day. The Huskers stranded seven on base while KU left two (Settlemier walked twice).

Humphreys (12-15) gave up three hits, struck out four and walked none in three and one-third innings to take the loss. Settlemier, the reigning co-National Player of the Week, allowed three hits, fanned five Huskers and walked none in two and two-thirds innings of relief.

KU continues the road stint at #23 Oklahoma Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (noon) in Norman, Okla.
