KU Tennis Lands Three On Academic All-Big 12 Team

Lawrence, Kan. – The University of Kansas women’s tennis team earned three spots on the 2005 Academic All Big 12 Women’s Tennis team Big 12 officials announced Tuesday. KU junior Luiza Loureiro and sophomore Ashley Filberth were two off 33 first team members, while junior Christine Skoda earned one of seven second team spots.

Loureiro, a Brasilia, Brazil native is majoring in business, while Filberth from Kansas City, Mo., is a communication studies major. Skoda hails from Edmonton, Ontario, and is working towards a sports and fitness management degree.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 GPA or better, and the second team members are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled matches. Freshmen and transfer students are not eligible their first year of academic residence.

The Jayhawks will compete this weekend in the 2005 Big 12 Conference Tennis Championship in Austin, Texas. The Jayhawks, seeded No. 11, will face the No. 6 seed Colorado on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
