STILLWATER, Okla. –

Senior Casey Larson and freshman Tony Thompson each had two hits, but it was not enough to avoid a sweep in Stillwater. Oklahoma State scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a one-run deficit and earn a series sweep of Kansas, 8-3 Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Cowboys win their ninth straight game and improve to 32-11 overall and 14-7 in the Big 12. The Jayhawks fall to 25-22 overall and 5-13 in conference.

Kansas took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning on a bases loaded single by John Allman, but as they did all series, the Cowboys answered with four runs in the sixth on a solo homer from Neil Medchill and a two-run triple by Tyrone Hambly to regain the lead.

The Jayhawks took an early lead with a lead-off home run by Casey Larson in the top of the first. It was the senior’s second straight weekend with a home run and first round-tripper to lead off a game since Matt Baty hit one at Wichita State in 2004.

However, the Cowboys answered with single runs in their half of the first as well as the second to take a 2-1 lead.

In the third, third baseman Tony Thompson and Casey Larson hit back-to-back one-out singles before Robby Price walked to load the bases. Allman then followed with a two-run single to plate Thompson and Larson as Kansas scored its sixth and seventh runs of the weekend.

The Cowboys took the lead and the game with four runs in the sixth inning. After a lead-off homer by Medchill, and base hits by Thomas Belza and Luis Flores, Hambly delivered a triple to stretch the lead to 5-3. Hambly scored on a fielder’s choice to cap the four-run rally.

Kansas was swept for the third time in a Big 12 series this season.

The Jayhawks will look to rebound Tuesday with a non-conference game against Missouri at Kauffman Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
