Bonds, Fuller Highlight Final Day of Drake Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. – On the final day of the Drake Relays, Lauren Bonds ran a career best in the 1,500 meters and Corey Fuller placed second in the men’s triple jump to pace the Kansas track & field team Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bonds, a junior from Hutchinson, Kan., qualified for regionals in the 1,500 meters for the second week in a row, this time lowering her personal-best time to 4:27.16 to finish in third place.

Fuller recorded a triple jump of 15.20 meters (49-10.50 feet) to finish as the runner-up. The freshman from Baltimore, Md., has now finished second at three consecutive meets after winning the triple jump at the Jim Click Shootout April 5 in Tucson, Ariz.

In the women’s hammer throw, Zlata Tarasova recorded a mark of 54.60 meters (179-02 feet) to place sixth.

Brian Bishop finished 10th in the men’s discus with a throw of 49.57 meters (162-07 feet), and Nick Canton placed 12th in the men’s high jump after leaping 2.00 meters (6-06.75 feet) to round out the Jayhawks competitors on Saturday.

The Nebraska Open takes place Sunday in Lincoln, Neb., with several KU athletes looking to record regional marks with the postseason just three weeks away. Complete results can be found on www.kuathletics.com upon completion of the day’s events.
