The “On the Move” program is designed to encourage physical activity and fitness throughout the district. In conjunction with the program and with the support of New York Elementary principal Nancy DeGarmo, the Jayhawk athletes partnered with the grade school students in walking from their school to Massachusetts street and back.

“This is always a very rewarding activity for the KU student-athletes and the students of New York Elementary,” said Student-Athlete Life Skills Education Director Phil Lowcock.

During the trip the KU student-athletes became acquainted with their partners by serving as role models and offering advice on reaching goals in life.

14 of Kansas’ 16 varsity sports had athletes representing their respective sports at the event.
