LAWRENCE, Kan. – <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Kansas head softball coach Tracy Bunge announced Tuesday that Kelsey Alsdorf, out of Littleton, Colo., has committed to play softball at KU next year.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

A four-year letterwinner from ColumbineHigh School, Alsdorf is a versatile player who can play middle infield or outfield. She was named an all-state second baseman in 2007 and earned first team all-conference twice. She was also chosen as her high school’s offensive player of the year in 2006 and 2007.

“We are excited that Kelsey has decided to join the Jayhawks,” said Bunge. “Kelsey is a talented softball player who will add to our depth and team speed. She is versatile enough to help us both on the infield and potentially in the outfield. She is currently playing for the very competitive Colorado Stars Club Team and getting a great deal of experience and exposure. She is the first player from the Colorado area to become a Jayhawk since I have been here.”

Alsdorf, a national honor society member, becomes the first KU softball player from the state of Colorado since Monica Gormely in 1991. She joins two other players who signed national letters of intent last November. Those signees include Sarah Blair out of Katy, Texas, and Marissa Ingle from neighboring Olathe, Kan.
