Garlington Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas volleyball sophomore Karina Garlington was named ESPN The Magazine Third Team Academic All-District it was announced Thursday. Garlington becomes the sixth Jayhawk and fourth in the last two years to earn the award for her success on the court and in the classroom.

A Denver, Colo., native, Garlington has earned a 3.61 cumulative grade point average working toward a degree in sports management. The 6-0 outside hitter was one of the nation’s top 50 offensive threats through the first half of the season and has been KU’s most consistent threat at the net this season as she paces the team with 3.79 kills per set which ranks fourth in the Big 12 Conference. Garlington also leads the team with 0.30 services aces per set.

ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District and All-America honorees are nominated, voted on and awarded by members of CoSIDA. Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average or better and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
