Kansas Swimming and Diving Holds Postseason Banquet

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas swimming and diving program held its annual postseason awards banquet in the Naismith Room of the Booth Family Hall of Athletics in Allen Fieldhouse Saturday.

Swimming head coach Clark Campbell announced soon-to-be senior Lauren Bonfe and soon-to-be junior Danielle Herrmann as the 2007-08 co-captains. Bonfe was presented with the Karen Dionne Award for the most inspirational team member during the awards ceremony.

Also honored at the awards ceremony was 2006-07 senior co-captain Lisa Tilson, the recipient of the Academic Award, awarded to the senior with the highest Grade Point Average.

Freshman and Lawrence native Ashley Robinson was awarded the Newcomer of the Year Award. Robinson joined senior co-captain Jenny Short and Herrmann as the third member of the 2007 Kansas NCAA team where she competed in both the 500 and 1650 freestyle events in Minneapolis, Minn., March 8-10.

Short received the Tammy Thomas MVP Award. Short’s senior campaign consisted of four broken Kansas records (100, 200 backstroke, 200, 400 medley relays) and a trip to the Big 12 Championships. Short was one of three Kansas swimmers to qualify for the 2007 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships to conclude her career at Kansas.
