FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Senior Egor Agafonov, sophomore Jordan Scott, junior Stephanie Horton and the women’s 1,600-meter relay team each posted victories for the University of Kansas track and field teams at the Arkansas Twilight on Friday night. Seniors Julius Jiles and Matt Baysinger also posted regional marks for the Jayhawks.

Agafonov has won all nine of his competitions this year, including his indoor weight throw season where he won the National Championship for the second straight year. Each one of his completed tosses was good enough to win the event. His second throw in the finals was his best – 67.56 meters (221 feet, 8 inches).

Scott won the pole vault after connecting on his second attempt at 5.31 meters (17-05 ft.). It is a new season-best for the Watkinsville, Ga., native and ranks second in the Big 12.

Horton won the shot put for the second-consecutive week with her furthest toss coming on her final effort. After surpassing her opposition on her second throw of the finals, she put the competition out of reach at 15.73 meters (51-07.25 ft.).

The women’s 1,600-meter relay team bested their qualifying mark by running the second-fastest time in school history. Their first-place finish of 3:35.81 was exactly one second off the KU standard set in 2003.

On the men’s side, Jiles qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regionals with a 400-hurdles time of 51.48, placing him third at John McDonnell Stadium. Baysinger also surpassed the qualifying mark with his fourth-place finish of 1:49.08 in the 800-meter run.

Sophomore Kelsey Erb placed second in the women’s high jump at 1.70 meters (5-07 ft.), just one height away from qualifying for Regionals. Senior Maresia Pencil was under a second away from hitting the regional qualifying time for the second straight week as she finished fifth at 2:10.89.

This marks the final meet for most of the Jayhawks before the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Boulder, Colo. May 16-18. However, a trio of distance runners is competing on Sunday, May 4 at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, Calif. Log on to www.kuathletics.com for complete results.
