Jayhawks Finish Second at 2008 Big 12 Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas –

Kansas rowing placed second at the 2007 Big 12 Invitational in Austin, Texas after being edged by Texas. Kansas State placed third. Kansas was led by the First Varsity Four boat that placed first in a time of 7:39.0.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The First Varsity Four boat edged Texas by just over three seconds to earn the Jayhawks lone varsity victory on the day. The Second Novice Eight boat turned in the Jayhawks other victory at the Big 12 Invitational defeating Texas by over 10 seconds.

Texas was able to win both the First and Second Varsity Eight Boat races. The Jayhawks finished in third in both races.

The Jayhawks finished second in both the Second Novice Four and First Novice Eight races. They were edged by Texas in both races.

“We are pleased with our results today and happy to avenge our defeat to Kansas State at the Kansas Cup,” said head coach Rob Catloth. “We had some boats that really did well today and then we have some that still have some progress to make.”

With the regular season complete, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Kansas will head back to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for the South-Central Regionals on May 17-18. A top finish at the South-Central Regionals would earn the team a berth in the NCAA Championships two weeks later on May 30-June 1 in Sacramento, Calif..
