Kansas 13, Oklahoma 10

May 3, 2008

Kansas Head Coach Ritch Price

On the top six hitters:

“Somebody asked me last night about the success of the lower part of our order and today it was the top (doing the damage). You have to be productive one through nine in your order if you are going to put double-digit runs. Obviously it was a great day to hit with how the wind was blowing.

On not changing your approach at the plate with the wind:

“I thought we did a nice job of not changing our approach today. I actually think we did a nice job of staying in the middle of the diamond. We hit a lot of balls between the left-center and right-centerfield gaps. When you start changing your swing to adjust to the wind you are going to miss a lot of pitches you would normally hit.”

On freshman Jimmy Waters:

“He plays hard. I am excited to see him get it going a bit here at the end of the season. He has been very productive and it also bodes well for us next year with the loss of three impact seniors.”

On the Oklahoma pitching staff:

“I don’t think our success has anything to do with their pitching staff. Their hitters have beat up our pitching staff just as much as we have beat up theirs. With that wind blowing out the way it has the park is playing really small right now. If the ball is elevated at all you have a chance to put up a double or a home run every time you swing the bat. We are also getting late into the season and guys don’t miss the breaking balls they missed in the first half of the season. You really have to locate your breaking ball down in the zone now too because if it is elevated it is going to get hard too.”

On the series:

“There is no doubt that this was a big series for us. I told the club coming in that we needed to find a way to win this series because we could go from last place to seventh place. We certainly were not going to make the Big 12 Tournament without winning a series this weekend. We certainly haven’t clinched our spot in the Big 12 tournament by winning this series, but we just have to win series now that we are finally back at home. It seems like we have been on the road for a solid month. We play well at home and more physical with the bats and I think our guys are just thrilled to finally be off the road.”
