Kansas Women's Golf Adds Transfer

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Katy Nugent has transferred from Arkansas to play golf at Kansas it was announced by Jayhawk head coach Erin O’Neil. Nugent will be a junior in the fall of 2010.

Nugent, a former Kansas state high school champion at Andover, transferred to Kansas after two years playing for the Razorbacks. Nugent played in all 10 of Arkansas’ tournaments as a true freshman in 2009. As a sophomore this past season she played in three of four fall events, placing second among the Razorbacks in two tournaments.

“Katy is a great player and we are very excited to have her join our program,” O’Neil said.

Nugent claimed an individual state title as a sophomore at Andover High School before posting consecutive runner-up finishes as a junior and senior. She won nine of 10 tournaments as a senior. Nugent was a four-time league and regional champion during her prep career.

Her stellar junior career included becoming the youngest winner of the Wichita City Junior Championship, which she claimed at age 13. She set a then-state record with a 67 at the regional in 2005.

Last summer Nugent won the Kansas Women’s Amateur while recording the only under-par score in the tournament. She also claimed consecutive Wichita Women’s City titles in 2008 and 2009.

Nugent was in Sports Illustrated magazine’s Faces In the Crowd after leading Andover to the team title as a senior. She was recognized for consecutive runner-up state finishes and her title as a sophomore, as well as for winning nine of 10 tournaments as a senior.
